Actually the vehicle weight increased by 300 pounds
mostly due to gov't regs (side impact, etc.), so they
bumped the power to keep a similar HP to weight ratio.
 The 1.8 came in '94.  My 1990 1.6 was just a tad
slower than the 1.8.  The VVT engine is smoother,
though, and a lot more torquey.
