Thanks for the insight, this partially explains the different stories we keep
hearing. Also the comment about the differences between GL4 and GL5 are
educational. 
It is of course possible that even a post 73 box could have bronze gear
bushings installed by a rebuilder who didn't have the steel, do you know if
they interchange?
The real point here is likely to be that since the change to 90w came only
after and because of the syncro change, anyone using motor oil in any TR box
is  likely to be safe, but the same cannot be said about anyone using 90w.
Again, motor oil OR 90w should lube the box ok, but it's pretty indisputable
that an OD unit NEEDS the lighter oil.
