My rack was also a dealer installed option (or so I was told). Its really
heavy duty, extends to all 4 corners of the trunk lid and is screwed down to
the trunk via chrome screws. When I had the car repainted years ago the
holes were left so I could reattach the rack. Having removed it for this
chroming job after 10 years I see no ill effects other than the paint
underneath it being rubbed down to the primer right around the screw holes.
Given that, it sounds like maybe I should just bite the bullet and have the
original one redone instead of opting for a new one.
