Bizarrely, there are garages who don't realise that Spitfire sills are
structural! Many cars with a chassis do not have load bearing sills (they're
screwed on in the case of the Herald!) and these should not be failed on
rust in this area, with the exception of any jagged metal causing a danger
to pedestrians. Of course Spitfire sills are extremely important to the
vehicle's structure - ever tried jacking up a Spitfire with rusty sills and
watching the door gaps move? I have seen some appallingly bad Spitfires with
newly passed MOT's, simply because the tester didn't understand the
construction of the vehicle!
        On the other hand, I have seen one MOT tester check the engine bay
valances on one of my Heralds - these are made of pressed steel, but serve
the same purpose structurally as the cardboard items in a Spitfire! Luckily
(for him), he didn't find anything to try and fail it for,
