Just a quick bit of additional info... In my research about two months 
ago, I found that the 70 Mk. 3 US Version and the new Mk 4's had same 
crash pad, and the difference from earlier models was twofold:

1.  The pad did not "flare out" over the center console; and

2. There was now a slight recessed area surrounding the ash tray.

I'm not sure, however, of how my above statement fits with the current 
discussion about configuration at the windscreen.  (Haven't pulled my 
old one out yet).
