Hi Folks
I just dealt with this on my 2.5 PI looking at the teeth, it will be seen
that on some the chamfer on the teeth points towards the engine and on some
towards the gearbox, I don't know if this was due to leftover stock or
assembly errors, some old guy who had been doing another job for years gets
put back on flywheel assembly and makes thousands before someone looks at
them carefully, compares them to the drawing and realises the problem, the
old guy left the flywheel department when inertia starters were in use and
didn't need to look at the drawing when he went back to flywheels 'cause he
knew how to do it!
Yes this does happen, had an incidence of this at work just before
christmas!
Anyway, I resolved the problem by removing the ring flipping it and
re-installing it with some Loctite stud and bearing fit, (one that requires
heat for removal) no problems since, the car is a daily driver and gets at
least four starts a day, (at the moment it is having to be started four
times each morning as the metering unit seems to be a bit out of whack!).

Graham.
