   My e-type's filter hung down so it stayed filled with oil
via gravity.  The stand pipe or non-return valve is, however
an important issue.  Some argue that it is unimportant.  My
308 uses a high pressure filter and the stand-pipe keeps
the first blast of oil ready at start-up.  Given the price of a
rebuild, I prefer to be safe.
