Kai,

When I put in a new throwout bearing (Toyota Land Cruiser version) I
wondered whether to pack it or not. Someone on the list said not to, so I
didn't...even though it went against every instinct I had. Ten thousand
miles later and not a problem with it ever....just got back this PM from a
500 mile road trip this weekend. And I just barely beat the snow. Yes
it's snowing in Denver AGAIN this spring!!!

Don't know why packing the TOB would cause it to fail but the advice I was
given worked for me.

packing to capacity with more high-temp bearing grease as little seamed to
be inside!!!
