Let's talk about a new scoring system for two-day/two-course events
(Divisionals, Tours, Nationals). Many of us travel long distances at great
expense to compete in these events. Due to bad luck (weather, mechanical,
cones, etc.) on the first day, the competition and the fun is over for many.
A different scoring system can help change this.

Instead of adding the times together, consider each day a separate event.
Use the finishing POSITIONS (not times) from the two days to determine the
trophies for the overall competition. The competitor that finishes first on
day1 is compared to the competitor who finishes first on the day2. Comparing
their "other day" finishing positions determines who gets the first and
second place trophies for the overall competition.

Once first and second are determined, the 2nd place positions from each of
the two days are compared to determine the third and fourth place trophies.

Etc until all the trophies are determined.

What does this mean? Well....

The competitor who finishes 1st on the first day can have an overall finish
no worse than 2nd.

The competitor who finishes 2nd on the first day can have an overall finish
no worse than 4th.

The competitor who finishes 3rd on the first day can have an overall finish
no worse than 6th.

The competitor who finishes 4th on the first day can have an overall finish
no worse than 8th.

The competitor who finishes 15th on the first day can have an overall finish
no better than 1st and no worse than 30th.

The competitor who finishes LAST on the first day can have an overall finish
no better than 2nd and no worse than last.
