As someone else has said if you have air ramming in the front and going
through the rad then an equal volume (minus the amount the engine uses) must
be escaping from somewhere or the engine compartment would blow up like a
balloon!  Gaps at the top back only help air escape when stationary.

Seems to me James' problem is one of getting cool enough air to the intakes,
which is what he said in the first place, and isn't that where a scoop would
come in?  Bernoulli comes into play when air flows over a surface, a scoop
would ram cool air in.
