I stand corrected, Willie, although for the life of me I can't figure
out what I got wrong! Bill Fink (or Isis Imports) always ran a small
advertisement in the back of Road & Track back in early federalizing
days, I recall. Offering 'new cars' to the Morgan trade. I remember
visiting San Francisco when I was a graduate student, stopping in at
Pier 33 or wherever they were out there in the Embarcadero, and visiting
with the guys there. I told them then that I had no money and no current
intention to buy a new Morgan car and found the fellows there, one of
whom (I presume) was Bill Fink to be great guys, happy to show me the
cars and talk about them, the whole nine yards. I like to think that
these guys kept the Morgan name alive in North America. Call me naive if
you like, but I wasn't aware (I must admit) of anyone else being in the
Morgan business from about 1967-68 onwards.
Since my wife's family is from Great Falls, Va, which is twenty minutes
from Purcellville, I'm sure I heard about Mr. Sharples & Company as soon
as they set up shop, and am happy to have them (AND Melvyn Rutter, AND
Linda Eckler, AND Penny Bates, AND all the others) making money in the
Morgan business. All of the above, including the Morgan factory, have
made some money from me, but not enough to be life-transforming. I think
that's great! Hopefully, they all live in prime real estate!!
What disturbs me about the tenor of some of the notes on this list is
the vitriolic nature of much of what is written. To quote Rodney King,
"Can't we all just get along?"
